Travel back in time with this 1950s Kay mandolin repair project. There are no maker marks on it, but I recognize the headstock as a Kay design
It's a total repair project, but it is all there, including the raised pickguard

Awesome old Kay project. All components are there except for the pickguard. This guitar is in need of a neck reset and a crack repair on the side of the fretboard extension. The bridge appears to be original and I think it's brazilian. The neck has a soft very comfortable v profile that feels fantastic. Based on what I can find, this model was made in the late 1930s. It has tortoise binding on ft, bk and soundhole and it all appears to be in fantastic shape.

I believe it started life as a translucent red, mahogany body 1966 Duo Sonic. The pictures tell the story. Massive routing, electronics replaced, pickguard holes, tuners missing, decal messed up, etc

This is an original early 70's Gibson EB-3 Bass husk. The color was originally cherry red, and you can still see cherry on the neck and other areas, but most of the bass has faded to brown. The finish is original. There are nicks, dings, chips, scratches and buckle wear. No cracks. The frets and fingerboard show wear, but nothing out of the ordinary considering the age. Travel back in time with this old Kay mandolin. Made in Chicago. Judging by the headstock logo and looks, I believe it is from the late 1940s or early 1950s
Cosmetically, it's quite worn. Despite the dull finish, it kind of looks good. With some love, it should sing again. Primarily, the neck heel has separated from the body. So, it needs a neck reset. Vintage Conqueror 4 string Banjo easy project Wood Inlay Design Kawai Japan. I would guess it is from the early 70's but I don't know for sure. I don't know banjos so it will need a little work and set up. One of the studs holding down the Remo head is loose. Bridge looks like it could use replacing but plays as is. This is a solid steel neck reinforcement bar from an early 60s era Harmony Stella 12 string neck. It measures 3 / 16" wide, 1 / 2" deep, 12-3 / 8" long. There is a bend in it that can be seen in the photos, this isn't damage, it was installed this way originally, forced into a straight slot in the neck. I don't know if this was done intentionally or not.

It is made from a single piece of very old white oak that came out of the kitchen of the house I grew up in, which was about 100 years old at the time this was taken from it, since then it has aged another twenty some years and has also been baked in an oven a very resonant piece of wood
