I purchased this guitar online in 2019 and purchased all the parts separately for it. The original pancake pickup was broken so I had my luthier replace it with a Gibson Mini-Humbucker, but used the original pancake pickup cover. He also upgraded the electronics and installed a new tailpiece. He also checked out the electronics and everything works perfect. I also obtained a limited edition Kay soft ... more

Plays well. Sounds great. Plenty of expected cosmetic wear expected with a 60-year-old instrument; rust and patina on metal surfaces, wear in the finish, dings and scuffs, some light fret wear in 1st position. It's missing a couple pickguard screws and the 5th string tuner ferrule. The truss cover screws are aftermarket. The neck is relatively straight, but there's a little fret-out around the 12th fret on the 5th and 6th string. See video. Electronics are clean. Tuners are smooth. Action is ... more

Kay Vanguard Truetone 1960s. This guitar sounds and plays good. All original with the exception of two extra pots that were added to the pickguard. They are not hooked up. The two bottom knobs are dummy knobs just to fill the holes that were added. This was just rewired properly with one volume and one tone. Vintage 1965 Kay USA Truetone Vanguard 302 Guitar Neck. This might be correct for some other models made by Kay. Some scuffs, scratches and nicks. Frets have some wear but look pretty good by vintage Kay standards. Also by vintage Kay standards, fretboard looks very nice. Some guitar stand / play marks on back of neck. Vintage 1965 Kay USA Truetone Vanguard 302 Guitar Pancake Pickup. Has been tested and sounds great. Many Kay models use this same pickup. This is from the bridge position but can also be used in the neck or middle position. Numerous fine play scratches (please see photos). A few deeper scratches.
