1960s Kay made Montclair branded Vanguard in good condition. These are some of the best little guitars Kay made. They have real rosewood fingerboards and adjustable truss rod. Pickups have plenty of output. I used this guy for slide to get that Ry Cooder vibe. One side of the tuners and the bridge have been replaced. Electronics work fine and it's ready to play. Plays well. Sounds great. Plenty of expected cosmetic wear expected with a 60-year-old instrument; rust and patina on metal surfaces, wear in the finish, dings and scuffs, some light fret wear in 1st position. It's missing a couple pickguard screws and the 5th string tuner ferrule. The truss cover screws are aftermarket. Very clean and all original (including case and trem bar) late 1960s Kay Vanguard II. Almost no finish wear, and just a couple of minor dings along the edges. Finish is rather ??satin??, however, which likely represents light surface oxidizing over the decades. I had to do a little work to get it playing well; to remedy some amateurish fret lowering (ahhhhh!). The guitar has a very minor rise at the body joint (common with these), but a former owner badly mangled the top three frets in response.... more

Kay Vanguard Truetone 1960s. This guitar sounds and plays good. All original with the exception of two extra pots that were added to the pickguard. They are not hooked up. The two bottom knobs are dummy knobs just to fill the holes that were added. This was just rewired properly with one volume and one tone. The original pancake pickup was broken so I had my luthier replace it with a Gibson Mini-Humbucker, but used the original pancake pickup cover.
