Also, the plastic strap button broke but is easily replaced. The wood is also top-shelf. Beautiful figured maple back and sides. Comes with an old case

1958 Hofner Senator Guitar (Serial No. 4674) ONLY 23 Serial Numbers Away From John Lennon's Senator (Serial No. 4697), that sold for £205, 000 in July 2009
This guitar may well have been on the same production run as John Lennon's Senator, so has a bit of history and a story behind it

This is a 1953 Hofner Senator archtop guitar
At some point in its life a previous owner added a cheap Chinese bridge pickup and some electronics. When I got the guitar I made the best of it by replacing the pickup with a Bare Knuckle Blue 90 P90 pickup. I also replaced the cheap nasty knobs with some vintage bakelite knobs from a pre-war radio, I replaced the tuners with Kluson Deluxe strip tuners, I and added a tune-o-matic floating bridge

It's a well-loved guitar but needs some attention, hence the low price, compared to others on here It's been modified for a lefty but wouldn't take much (new nut) to change it back The neck has been reset and re fretted (by a professional luthier) and it plays ok (great sound!) but could do with setting up and new strings There's plenty of signs of wear, scratches, dings and cracked varnish... more

This is in tremendous condition for a guitar from 1954. Plays and sounds great, and had a full refret last year by McIntyre Guitars in Edinburgh. Structurally sound, loads of minor dinks - there is a small hole drilled at the back of the headstock (pictured) - I can't figure out what it was for. Also evidence that there was a floating neck pickup fitted to the end of the neck at some point
All in all, this is a great guitar - looks, sounds and plays just like it should

From the location of the decal, and the headstock inlay, I can confirm it is from 1956-1957 - the same year that Sputnik I was sent into orbit!

Hofner Senator Brunette, made in Germany in 1963.
Repaired as the headstock broke off. I used glue, screws, and wood for support. In my experience, it won??t break again.
The repair was painted over, it looks and feels pretty good.
Apart from that, all the accessories were replaced, so it lost most of its collectible value, but it is still a very good looking German 60??s archtop guitar that sounds and plays amazing.

Serial number is 1661, which dates the guitar around 1965. This is the same guitar Jeff Beck rather mindlessly smashed up on the set of Blow Up!

The guitar is in great shape and benefits from a Bigsby tremolo. The guitar has a few blemishes but no cracks or dents. A real stunner
