1967 all original Vintage Hofner Bass. POT is from '67 The 147 denotes either the made in the 14th week or some say take the 14 divide by 2 and it tells you the month. The 7 denotes the year. It's an authentic hofner potentiometer. Theres 972 etched in the bottom of feet board and is the number of guitar made that year in 1967, not the number of that particular model but number of total guitars that came out of the Hofner factory. Almost mint, hardly played vintage 1973 Hofner 500 / 1 violin beatle antique burst bass w / OHSC. No scratches or dings. Slight tarnish on silver tailpiece is all. I found this instrument recently and have done some work to clean it up. It plays really well. I have been over the entire instrument and here are my comments
1. I dressed the fretwires and most of the fine lines on the wires are gone exception is the fretwire adjacent to the nut
2. The fretboard - including the fretmarkers, are in near perfect condition. Neck has a seam down the middle that your thumb can feel
3. The tuners are in really nice shape, the guitar restrings and tunes ... more

Not a re-issue!! I purchased this guitar from a seller onReverb. He purchased a number of 1960??s Hofners Club 40 guitars in the late1970??s and had them ever since. Got the year 1962 on this one from the Hofnersite. It could possibly be a 1963 however I do not think they were continuedinto ?63. This Hofner 457 is an amazing guitar in ridiculously good condition for its almost 60(!) years of age. Conservatively listed as "Very Good " , for its age it's Excellent. I just bought this off Reverb last year and I really hate to let it go but I cycle through a lot of guitars and gear and I have to pay off some other recent Reverb purchases. I have for you a very rare 1970s Hofner 164 with the beloved vibrato unit

I had the frets very recently dressed and set up properly from my guitar tech

It plays great and sounds very fat and dark

These single coils take fuzz and overdrive really well

The guitar is a featherweigh, too. the vibrato does prevent any neck dive as well

There are a few small dings and nicks. My tech said it looked as if it was barely ever played

This is a nice Hofner copy of the Beatle Bass Paul used. We believe it to be a Univox or Teisco 1960's. Electronics all work however the tone just has a little static noise when you turn it volume works great and so does the tone other than that drop of static while turning (probably a very good electronics cleaning is in order). Very clean with minimal wear. Non-original bridge, scratchplate and hard shell case
Thick, chunky neck, as these early ones had no truss rod. Plays well with a reasonably low action. It's not super low as there is some buzz higher up the neck if set too low. Tricky to solve completely without a trussrod... more

For 60 years of age it is in remarkable condition. There are some scratches, in fact quite a few all around the body. Cosmetic and with the nicely darkened laquer they give the instrnent this wonderfull patina. This rare Hofner guitar was made in Germany in the 1960s. There is no marking on the guitar, but I assume it is a model No. 161. Guitar is very light in weight ( 2 22kg or 4 15lb ) and body is hollow inside

I was told it is the same model and year as George Harrison??s first good guitar when I got it, and I checked it back then.
The only details to take into account are: the pickguard is missing, the paint on the first fret section of the neck has some wear, and there are some cracks on the veneer at the back

This gorgeous archtop has a maple fretboard and original maple bridge. It's very rare to find such an early example in amazing condition and 100% original. The maple also makes it super light and gives it a fantastic tone. I've had a look and resources online date this to 1956 from the series number inside the f-hole (3229).

In exceptionally clean condition this mid to late 1950's Hofner requiring a neck repair a previous one at the top tendon of the heel had failed

Hofner 173 electric guitar made in West Germany in the early to mid sixties. It is a rare model badged ''Gagliano'' - only a few show this name although they were made by Hofner. This vintage Hofner President archtop guitar is being sold for a friend whose husband owned it before he passed.
Crafted in 1958, it still rings nicely, especially with the Hofner compensator holding the ball end of the strings. Please look carefully at the pictures as the D string strip is slightly bent - but has little impact on tone.

up for grabs is my 1960s vintage hofner in wild rock'n'roll off-white fake crocodile vinyl, I bought this over a year ago from Germany as my back up guitar but decided it really wasn't right to take it out to shows and do it damage. the seller informed me it had been set up by philthy guitars in Burgstetten, a hofner specialist. I have modified the guitar but have retained the original pick guard and switches so it can be reverted back to its original state but it will need new pickups and wiring if you want to revert it to the original. The current pickups are new and work perfectly.... more

This guitar is sold 'as seen'. It is an old guitar and does not play like something made in 2024.
It needs to go to someone who understands vintage guitars and will cherish this as I tried to.
I bought it in 1981 from a second-hand musical equipment shop at the bottom of Westgate Road in Newcastle Upon Tyne (let me know if you remember the place - anecdotes always appreciated!)
