Hagstrom made electric guitars in Sweden, throughout the 1960s and 70s. The Hagstrom H-8 (eight string bass) was one of the more innovative solid-body guitars of the period, and the first multi-stringed bass ever produced. The eight strings were actually four pairs of two strings (rather like a twelve-string guitar); a lower, regularly tuned bass string, and another one, typically tuned one octave higher. It was only produced for two years, but in this time was used by numerous artists including Jimi Hendrix and Noel Redding of the Jimi Hendrix experience.
