I had my luthier remove it and refinish the body with a thin clear nitrocellous finish. This shows the beautiful ash grain of the body. 1971 Fender Bassman Silver Faceplate is all original and made of metal. This faceplate says "Fender Musical Instruments" so we know it's CBS issue. I had this on an old Bassman amp that is up for auction so its used but not abused; please see photo for condition.
